Task
Museum Solicits Help to Save Exhibit
The Bedrock Museum of Natural History has a huge problem. Just days before the grand opening, the new rocks and minerals exhibit has gotten all scrambled up. Dr. Bumblestone is feeling a little foggy from his bump to the head and needs your help to get the exhibit properly displayed in time for the highly publicized exhibit opening.
Happy to assist your fellow "rockhounds", you will be responsible for setting up a team of researchers to reorganize the rock exhibit. It's your team's responsibility to:
- Do some research to brush up your knowledge of the different types of rocks and minerals.
- Examine the assortment of rock and mineral samples.
- Based on your research, determine how they can be classified for an effective display. You
may want to consider the following characteristics:
-texture
-hardness
-composition
-colour
-lustre
-possible uses
-You will need to present your research and exhibit display to both Dr. Flintstone and Dr. Bumblestone for their approval prior to the grand opening. Your presentation will hopefully help Dr. Bumblestone regain his memory so he can assist visitors to the exhibit.
-Your teacher will provide you with a collection of rocks and minerals to observe. Practice classifying and sorting the collection in a variety of ways. Remember to justify each method as you go.
